Based on a photograph taken on the way home while out walking, this is one of my circle series from the bolt & fixings set. A picture of a  bolt on an old wrought iron fence mounted on a front garden wall in Ashleigh Avenue Bridgwater, Somerset. The wrought iron had been painted white over green and the smooth round headed bolt was rusting beautifully. I loved the colour combination and the bluish hue to the shadow, also the layers and the textures. As I built the image on the canvas, the bolt transformed into a biosphere and a representation of its decay. The ripping away of the green pastures, the life force from a perfect blue jewel, the fire of the reds and orange like flames.
My thoughts as I painted turned to the deadly nature of degeneration, although seduced by the rich colour, I could not ignore thoughts of global warming and the damage we are inflicting on our world.
