This is one of the Bridgwater Circle series of paintings image, captured while walking round the new Robert Blake school down by the small brook running at the side of the water meadows, this bolt is one of thousands keeping the new fencing together.

The fence has had time to settle in, so although new nature is rapidly moving in to this man-made new home – plants, insects, spiders. I found the effects created by this modern man-made barrier and nature fascinating. The painting crawls with curious imagery which appeared as I painted, the contrast of the spidery vegetation and the newly painted blue metal fence support with its golden bolt swimming in a blue sea, an alien landscape with will o the wisp and pitchfork.
