This is one of the Bridgwater Circle series of paintings from the Wrought collection. The image was captured while crossing the road bridge of the River Parrot at Broadway, Bridgwater, Somerset. Looking down from the side of the bridge through the wrought iron railing down to the crazy paving of the underpass.
I have always had a fascination with bridges, no doubt because of my name and the fact they bring people and communities together. I liked the contrast of the degrading painted metal ring from the railings and the paving below. The broken stones assembled carefully, a mad puzzle cemented into a new surface. Notice also the bold dandelion taking centre stage, nature’s first step to reclaim ownership of our concrete jungle.
