This is one of the Bridgwater Circle series of paintings image captured while crossing Blake gardens at the rear of the library in Bridgwater, Somerset. A small service cover in the tarmac path very near a yew tree whose berry has rolled into the depression forming the handle of the metal cover. Looking down, the little red berry caught my attention, it looked pleased with itself, protected as it was from being trodden down.
The true meaning of this painting remains in need of discovery, a small defiant poisonous berry lodged in a blue diamond decorated plate screwed into the tarmac with a ‘ring of confidence’ surrounding it – it is a bit of an enigma such a blue and lonely image protected but truly impotent.
