Scrape By

This is one of the Bridgwater face series of paintings. Photograph taken in Frian Street, Bridgwater, Somerset.

I was taken with the lovely boot scrapers on a couple of small terraced houses near the sorting office, they are old and crumbling and utterly beautiful.

The wear on their faces has instilled a care worn, distressed expression. I feel with the circlet they look like guardian angels that have been somewhat worn out by their charges and have closed their eyes so they don’t have to see any more suffering.
