This is the first one of the Wellington Road train station set. Part of the Bridgwater Circle series of paintings, this image was captured at the train station in Bridgwater, Somerset. The station was built in 1841 and designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The ornate cast iron is a joy to behold.
I have always had a great admiration for Brunel and his work. Bridgwater Station has a lovely practical & decorative design. The colour combination of blue sky and reflected light which gives the cast iron portico supports a golden glow which extends to the ball light even though its lamp is off.
Quote, “I am going to design a station after my own fancy; that is, with engineering roofs etc.” — Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
