This is the second painting in the train station at Wellington road, Bridgwater. Part of the Bridgwater Circle series of paintings. Bridgwater’s station was built in 1841 and designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The ornate cast iron is a joy to behold.
I have a great admiration for Brunel and his work. Bridgwater Station has a lovely practical & decorative design. The colour combination of orange sky and early evening blue shadows gives the iron portico its moody atmosphere.
Quote, “I am going to design a station after my own fancy; that is, with engineering roofs etc.” — Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
